Exetel offers naked DSL

2007-Dec-1, 7:45 pm

Exetel is now offering a set of well priced naked DSL plans, and has relaunched its Optus based plans after a short hiatus.

The new naked plans start at $50/month for 8GB peak, and go up to $105/month for 48GB. As per Exetel's existing lineup, the plans all offer 48GB of offpeak (midnight to noon) quota. The plans also include 100 free local/national phone calls via VoIP.

Exetel continues its tradition of offering very low cost services, and the prices compare very well with iiNet's recently announced naked DSL plans. Although Exetel is not offering unlimited local and national calls like iiNet, its plans offer more quota at lower prices which may suit its target market more. Exetel's plans also offer free uploads, unlike iiNet which has begun counting them on its naked plans.

One downside of the Exetel naked plans is that you cannot take your home number over to the VoIP service, which is something iiNet is able to do. One other issue to consider is that Exetel has been using P2P shaping/caching technology, which could be a negative point for some users.

Exetel has also resumed its selling of ADSL2+ services based on Optus infrastructure, and has revised the pricing of these services upwards. It stopped taking orders recently after a "heavy backlog of application".
